LEADERSHIP BURBANK PROGRAM
NOW
ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR
CLASSES
STARTING SEPTEMBER 2007
BURBANK, Calif., June 4, 2007 - Leadership Burbank, a training ground
for future leaders in our community and "rising stars" in local
businesses, announced today the recruitment drive for the 2007-08
program year beginning in September. Leadership Burbank is a
community-based, non-profit organization that offers a nine-month
leadership training program for people who live or work in Burbank.
Classes are held one Friday per month for nine months plus one Saturday
in October and one Saturday in February. Each class meets from 8 a.m.
to 5 p.m. Space is available
for up to 25 students. Application deadline is July 31, 2007.
Through a
hands-on curriculum, leaders and emerging leaders have the opportunity
to enhance their personal and professional skills, gain a deeper
understanding of community dynamics and build a network of colleagues
and associates throughout the city of Burbank. It is hoped that
graduates will use the insights and contacts they develop through this
program to enhance performance in their current jobs and endeavors and
to enrich the community by involvement with local civic, government,
business, religious and/or nonprofit groups.
Sessions have
been designed to provide a solid foundation in the concepts and
principles of leadership that will be addressed throughout the program
as the participants are confronted with the daily issues that face our
community. Throughout the year, participants will interact with council members,
state representatives, city department heads, nonprofit directors, local
business leaders and
others who make Burbank work. Each session will also explore the
inter-related elements of the Burbank community including
infrastructure, economic viability, police and fire services, social
justice, non-profit sector, and the environment, to name just a few.
J.P. O'Connor
and Jim DeLizia are the facilitators for this program and both are
nationally recognized leadership curriculum designers and trainers who
live in Burbank.
"Our mission
is to identify, educate, and motivate current and emerging leaders in
Burbank to develop ideas and solutions that make Burbank a strong,
sustainable and vibrant community," said Lucy Burghdorf, Chair of the
Leadership Burbank Board of Directors. "Leadership Burbank
provides individuals with information to effectively enhance the
community life in Burbank, and the ability to assume greater leadership
responsibility in the community."
