Are tuition sponsorships available?

Tuition information is available on the Leadership Burbank website. Leadership Burbank is committed to the belief that no qualified applicant should be excluded based on the inability to pay. Scholarships are available.

Sponsors are needed to provide scholarships for individuals who need financial assistance, and to maintain affordable tuition in this program.

What is Leadership Burbank?

Leadership Burbank is a community-based organization that offers a nine-month leadership training program for people who live or work in Burbank.

Through a hands-on curriculum, leaders and emerging leaders have the opportunity to enhance their personal and professional skills, gain a deeper understanding of community dynamics, and build a network of colleagues and associates throughout our city.

It is hoped that graduates will use the insights and contacts they develop through this program to enhance performance in their current endeavors and to enrich the community by involvement with local civic, government, business, religious and/or nonprofit groups.

 
Who founded Leadership Burbank?

Leadership Burbank was founded by the Burbank Chamber of Commerce, the City of Burbank, the Burbank Unified School District, and Woodbury University.
 
Who should apply?

Leadership Burbank seeks the commitment of individuals interested in the enhancement of community life in Burbank, especially those interested in greater leadership responsibility for the future of the community.

Participants in Leadership Burbank should:

  • Live or work in Burbank
  • Possess a genuine interest in pursuing key volunteer, public office, board or commission roles
  • Embrace high standards of personal integrity, leadership, and a strong commitment to solving community challenges
  • Promise to fulfill the time commitments necessary to complete the program
  • Not be a candidate for public office at the time of the application or class

 

Mandatory time commitments include one Friday per month for nine months, plus one Saturday in October and one in February.

A graduation ceremony will be held in May after the completion of classes.

What are the benefits of Leadership Burbank?

Each year, Leadership Burbank graduates a class of 20 to 25 committed volunteer leaders who spend much of their lives in Burbank - whether they work in town or are local residents. The class includes a mix of government, private business, and community nonprofit organizations.

 Benefits of participation include:

  • Greater knowledge of the issues facing the community
  • Better understanding of how government, residents, businesses, and non-profits are interconnected in Burbank
  • Improved communicat ion and leadership skills
  • Networking opportunities, especially through the Leadership Burbank Alumni Association Current and alumni members of Leadership Burbank are continuously recruiting new leadersand volunteers to join the group.
 
What kind of time commitment is involved outside of the classwork?

The class will be asked to develop and execute a class project that will have a positive affect on the Burbank community.

Class members will be asked to spend some outside time working on the class project, together and/or independently.
